Kohler and Yabu Pushelberg cast a spell of design at Salone del Mobile
They say fashion tells a story, but for Dina Yassin,…
At the Salone del Mobile, Kohler Co., together with the design luminaries at Yabu Pushelberg, have crafted an exhibit that transcends typical design boundaries. Gazetta’s correspondent, Raissa, was at the heart of the action, attending Kohler’s exclusive cocktail reception, and stepped into a world where the fluidity of water was reimagined through design and technology. Amidst the esteemed assembly of design, Kohler’s exhibition emerged as a living showcase of their rich heritage and unrelenting pursuit of innovation.
Positioned within the International Bathroom Exhibition (Hall 06 | A38 A40), Kohler, Kallista, Kast, and Klafs rolled out an array of experiences, each unfolding with a flair that’s uniquely Milanese. The installations told a story through design, where water’s form was celebrated in a visual symphony of texture and light. Deep fire orange hues emanated from the products themselves, casting each piece in the warm, vibrant glow of a Milanese sunset.
Larry Yuen, President of Kohler International, highlighted the brand’s dedication to combining design leadership with product innovation. The collaboration with Yabu Pushelberg echoed a shared dedication to immersive experiences and the crafting of compelling designs.
Technological advancements were at the forefront, with the KOHLER Anthem + digital showering system and the Kohler x SR_A Formation 02 smart toilet showcasing seamless integration of functionality and style. The concept of the Numi 2.0 smart toilet, with its electronic-ink capabilities, previewed a future where personal spaces celebrate expressive, dynamic art.
Materiality and chromatism commanded equal attention, as seen in the Rista Vessel bathroom sink, which represents the pinnacle of 3D printing and artisanal craftsmanship. The expansion of the Heritage Colors collection added a palette of archival greens to Kohler’s design narrative, while the Kast Wave wash basin collection offered a fresh take on bathroom aesthetics with its playful and postmodernist designs.
Kallista’s Bandeau Artistic Shower collection introduced a sculptural elegance to functional fixtures, and Kohler’s WasteLAB demonstrated the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability by creating sinks from repurposed industrial materials.
The exhibition also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Arts/Industry program with a special installation by alumni artist David Franklin, showcasing the enduring fusion of artistic exploration and manufacturing excellence.
Raissa shared her impression of the event, saying, “The Kohler exhibit at Salone del Mobile was a profound reminder of how deeply design can influence our daily environments. The integration of lively colors and advanced technology not only captivates the eye but also promises a revolution in our everyday wellness and interactions.”
In Milan, where past and future converge, Kohler and Yabu Pushelberg have charted a bold path for design—one where elements are re-envisioned, and daily luxury is transformed into an interactive experience. Raissa’s evening at the cocktail reception, immersed in the fiery glow of innovation, unfurls a story of Kohler’s inventive spirit—a narrative that Gazetta delivers to its design-savvy readers.
