Racing into the future: MG’s EXE181 concept sets new horizons at Beijing Auto Show

As MG Motor marks its centennial with flair, the British-born brand showcased its revolutionary EXE181 concept car at the Beijing Auto Show, signaling a new era in automotive design and technology. This latest marvel from MG combines a heritage of speed with the promises of tomorrow, heralding a new chapter for the iconic automaker.
The EXE181 is a nod to its historic predecessor, the original EX181 that saw Sir Stirling Moss achieve unparalleled speeds back in 1957. Today’s concept reimagines this legacy with cutting-edge enhancements and a vision for high-speed electric mobility. Developed in MG’s UK Design Centre, the EXE181 is more than a car; it’s a statement of intent from a brand that refuses to rest on its laurels.
Flaunting an aerodynamic silhouette designed to slice through air, the EXE181 boasts an estimated top speed of 415 km/h, powered by an innovative three-electric motor system and a semi-solid-state battery. These technological advancements not only aim for record-breaking speeds but also optimize efficiency with a drag coefficient of just 0.181.
The unveiling in Beijing isn’t just about celebrating a milestone but is a testament to MG’s ongoing commitment to innovation. Following closely on the heels of the Cyberster model’s tour across the Middle East, the EXE181 strengthens MG’s portfolio in the realm of electric sports cars, emphasizing the brand’s readiness to lead in the electric revolution.
Inside, the EXE181 merges tradition with futurism. The cockpit opens forward, echoing jet fighter designs, while the seats adorned in British TARTAN and a streamlined steering wheel with an integrated Head-Up Display (HUD) bridge the gap between classic aesthetics and modern functionality.
Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, highlighted the significance of the EXE181 at the unveiling: “This concept is not just a leap forward in automotive technology but a leap into the future of MG itself. With the EXE181, we’re honoring our past while driving full-throttle into a future where anything seems possible.”
As MG continues its journey, the EXE181 concept car is a bold reaffirmation of the brand’s dedication to leading-edge technology and design. It’s a fitting tribute to a century of automotive excellence and a clear signal that MG intends to remain at the forefront of the industry for the next hundred years.
