Aurora: Santoni’s Sensory Interpretation of Craft

Ivan Allegranti

With Santoni‘s Aurora, its Fall/Winter 2026 women’s collection, the Maison explores the poetic space between material mastery and sensory experience. The concept is inspired by the subtle glow that precedes sunrise, a light that reveals form gradually, transforming perception rather than overwhelming it.

This philosophy begins with the Maison’s most distinctive technique: Velatura. Through successive layers of pigment, leather surfaces acquire depth and tonal nuance, producing colors that seem to shift as they interact with light. The method transforms each piece into a small landscape of texture and shade, reflecting the artisanal precision that defines Santoni’s heritage.

The collection’s chromatic vocabulary is rooted in Le Marche, the Italian region where the brand was born. From the mineral calm of Mura green to the earthy intensity of Autunno brown and the luminous warmth of Aurora orange, the palette captures the quiet beauty of winter terrain.

Silhouettes move between structure and softness. The Sibille pump, crafted from Origine full-grain calfskin, embodies this equilibrium: a classic line animated by chromatic depth. Meanwhile, the Ira Double Buckle revisits Santoni’s iconic double-buckle shoe, translating a traditionally masculine code into a feminine statement through rounded volumes and architectural presence.

The motif evolves further in the Nina Buckles Over-the-Knee boot, where rear straps and metal buckles trace the vertical line of the leg, transforming hardware into a visual rhythm that accentuates movement. Crafted in Seta suede, its surface appears almost weightless.

During Milan Fashion Week, Santoni expanded this narrative into a multisensory installation. Photography by Sophie Delaporte introduced guests to the collection’s color story, while the immersive Bar Aurora (à parfums) translated those hues into fragrance. Earthy, warm, and luminous notes echoed the tonal palette, allowing visitors to experience Aurora not only through sight, but through scent and atmosphere.

In this way, Santoni’s Aurora collection becomes an exploration of how craftsmanship can engage all the senses.
