Nightstand Edition

Dina Yassin

If someone wanted to know a little more about you, they probably wouldn’t find the answer in your wardrobe.

They’d find it on your nightstand.

Not because it’s perfectly styled or filled with expensive things, but because it’s real. It’s where unfinished books wait patiently for tomorrow. Where the hand cream you’ve bought three times sits beside a notebook filled with half-formed ideas. Where a familiar fragrance has quietly become part of your evening ritual. A glass of water. Reading glasses. Maybe a candle that’s burned almost to the end because you keep telling yourself you’ll replace it next weekend.

Funny enough… none of us really plans a nightstand. It just happens.

Over time, it becomes this small collection of things we reach for without thinking. The objects that help us slow down after a long day, gather our thoughts before sleep, or ease ourselves into the morning before the emails, meetings and notifications begin all over again.

I suppose that’s why I’ve always found nightstands so interesting. They’re not designed for guests. They aren’t curated for social media. They’re one of the few corners of a home that’s entirely personal, quietly telling a story about the person who lives there without ever saying a word.

So, for this edition of What’s in My, we’re taking a look at five bedside essentials that have earned their place the old-fashioned way: by being used, loved and reached for, night after night.

Because sometimes… it’s the smallest rituals that say the most about us.

The Read

The Creative Act: A Way of Being

Rick Rubin

Some books are meant to be finished. Others become companions.

The Creative Act: A Way of Being isn’t simply about making art. It’s about paying attention, embracing curiosity and allowing creativity to become part of everyday life. Written by legendary music producer Rick Rubin, the book encourages readers to see inspiration everywhere, whether you’re an artist, entrepreneur, designer or simply someone trying to live more intentionally.

It’s the kind of book you open to a random page and somehow find exactly what you needed to read.

Price: $32

The Scent

Bibliothèque Eau de Parfum

Byredo

Some fragrances make an entrance.

Others become part of your home.

Inspired by old libraries and worn leather bindings, Bibliothèque has become one of Byredo’s most recognizable scents. Notes of peach, plum, violet, leather and patchouli create something warm, comforting and quietly sophisticated, lingering long after the lights go out.

It’s exactly the kind of fragrance that feels perfectly at home on a bedside table.

The Journal

Soho Notebook

Smythson

The best ideas rarely arrive during office hours.

Sometimes they appear just before sleep. Other times they’re waiting for you first thing in the morning. Keeping a notebook nearby has become one of those simple habits that quietly changes the way we think.

Beautiful paper doesn’t create better ideas…

It simply makes you want to write them down.

The Soho Notebook by Smythson is crafted in England using the brand’s signature featherweight paper, making even the quickest note feel worth keeping.

Price: From $75

The Object

Balance Bedside Carafe & Glass

NUDE Glass

Some objects solve a problem so beautifully that they become part of the room itself.

The Balance Bedside Carafe & Glass by NUDE Glass replaces the ordinary water bottle with something sculptural, elegant and wonderfully practical. Designed from lead-free crystal, it’s proof that thoughtful design often lives in the smallest everyday moments.

Price: Approximately $95

Nightstands rarely come together overnight.

One object becomes two. A book you’re still reading. A fragrance you reach for without thinking. A notebook that somehow collects more questions than answers. Before long, you’ve created a little corner that feels entirely your own.

Maybe that’s the point.

The most personal spaces in our homes aren’t always the ones we spend the most time designing. They’re the ones that quietly evolve alongside us, shaped by habit, comfort and the rituals we return to day after day.
