Embrace Life’s Opportunities To The Fullest
Last week I sat down to write about an eco-friendly solution benefiting both the planet and parenthood, my thoughts were abruptly diverted by the news of Surinamese/Dutch artist Def Rhyzm’s untimely passing at 53. It struck me deeply, reminding me of dancing to his beats in the early 2000s, a time when I pivoted from pursuing music to focusing on my communications studies.
Yet, music always lingered in my life, thanks to my friend and international music artist Shockman, who often pulled me back into the industry for PR and promotional work. Six years ago, he invited me to feature in one of his music videos, alongside the legendary Def Rhymz. Initially hesitant, I found myself immersed in one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Def Rhymz’s warmth dissolved my shyness, allowing me to fully embrace the moment and be myself.
Def Rhymz’s words: “Live your life to the fullest because life is too short.” His passing sparked introspection—have I truly lived life to its fullest?
Have I dared to pursue my dreams, especially in music?
While I may not have fully embraced the music industry, that filming day with Def Rhymz infused me with a taste of the limelight, thanks to Shockman’s invitation.
