A Royal Union: The Exquisite Wedding of Prince Abdul Mateen and Anisha Rosnah
In Brunei, a country rich in tradition and opulence, the wedding of Prince Abdul Mateen and Anisha Rosnah Isa-Kalebic epitomized Brunei’s rich cultural heritage and the grandeur of its royal traditions. Over ten days, from January 7th to 16th, 2024, the nation witnessed a blend of age-old customs and modern luxury. The solemnization ceremony, held on January 11th at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, marked the official beginning of their marital journey, attended by male guests, including ministers and government officials.
The bride, Anisha Rosnah, granddaughter of one of the Sultan’s special advisors, shone in custom outfits by Malaysian designer Teh Firdaus. Her attire for the Khatam Qur’an ceremony, a pre-wedding ritual involving the reading of the Holy Qur’an, was a custom-made baju kurung fashioned out of Tenunan Brunei, traditional handwoven textiles. The ensemble, all-white with lace and gem embellishments, symbolized purity and the sanctity of marriage.
For the Majlis Istiadat Berbedak, or the powdering ceremony, Anisha Rosnah wore a breathtaking all-red ensemble, later revealing a traditional gold headpiece adorned with intricate flower detailing. Prince Mateen matched the ceremony’s grandeur, donning an all-red ensemble, rich in cultural significance, and bearing gold epaulettes and numerous medals, indicative of his stature and contributions to the nation.
The couple’s reception, held at the Istana Nurul Iman, was a grand affair, attended by around 5,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries and world leaders. The royal families of Malaysia, Bhutan, Jordan, and other national leaders graced the occasion, reflecting the wedding’s international significance.
Highlighting the celebration was the couple’s procession through the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. Thousands of Bruneians lined the streets under the hot sun, eager to catch a glimpse of their prince and his bride. The procession was not just a display of royal glamour but also a moment of connection with the people of Brunei.
Anisha Rosnah’s wedding attire for this parade was no less spectacular. She dazzled in an all-white, long-sleeved gown, complemented by a stunning 132-carat tiara from Singapore jeweler Flower Diamond, previously worn by Prince Mateen’s sister, Princess Azemah. This was paired with a striking diamond necklace and earrings, epitomizing royal elegance.
The wedding of Prince Abdul Mateen and Anisha Rosnah was not merely a union of two individuals but a celebration of Brunei’s rich heritage and its embrace of modernity. It was a harmonious blend of solemn religious rituals, traditional Bruneian customs, and contemporary festivity. As the couple walked arm-in-arm, their fairy-tale wedding encapsulated the beauty of Brunei’s traditions and the promise of its future, marking a new chapter in the annals of its royal lineage.
