Moroccan Night at the Museum in Doha

Francesco Volpe

The partnership between Qatar and Morocco is celebrated as part of the 2024 Year of Culture Initiative

In collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Qatar, the Years of Culture initiative brought together the local community at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) on March 25th for a captivating evening at the “Moroccan Night at the Museum” event. Held to mark the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, the event showcased the depth of Moroccan traditions and heritage, offering a preview of the dynamic year to come.

The Berber Jewelry Collection from the Royal Palace exhibition at MIA took centre stage at the function, which saw more than 300 guests attending, to honour Qatar’s cultural partnership with Morocco. Brought by the Oudayas, National Museum of Adornment in Rabat, the exhibition features 200 historically and culturally significant pieces of Amazigh jewelry, marking the first display of its kind outside of Morocco. It will be available for viewing at MIA until May 20th, 2024. This exhibition provides guests with the chance to explore the rich heritage of the Amazigh people, gaining an appreciation for the craftsmanship and symbolism evident in each artifact.

Attendees were treated to a special display of Moroccan artist Othman Belkadi putting the finishing touches to an oil painting inspired by traditional Amazigh jewelry, live at the museum. They were further enchanted by an immersive experience that highlighted the rich tapestry of Moroccan culture. Guests could savour the flavours of traditional Moroccan tea and Ramadan sweets, all while being serenated by the mesmerizing sounds of Nass El Hal Band and gaining insights into the craftsmanship behind handmade Moroccan Caftans from Maison Chaker (@maisonchaker.bouchra).
