Swarovski – Masters of Light is currently open free of charge to the public in Milan till July 14th, 2024. Envisioned by Swarovski Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert, and curated by British fashion journalist and critic Alexander Fury, this unprecedented traveling exhibition is meant to celebrate almost 130 years of the Austrian Jewelry brand’s heritage and collaborations across the worlds of fashion, jewelry, and pop culture. Swarovski – Masters of Light, which premiered in Shanghai last Fall, is displayed across the luxurious historic salons of the newly-renovated Palazzo Citterio, the magnificent extension of Pinacoteca di Brera in the heart of Milan.

Swarovski – Masters of Light offers an exceptional selection of over 50 crystal-embellished outfits designed by renowned fashion houses, including Italian brands Prada and Miu MiuFendi Couture, Gucci, Atelier Versace, Armani Privé, alongside global designers, the likes of Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, Thierry Mugler Couture and Vivienne Westwood. You can also admire an unprecedented curation of outfits worn by global pop culture icons—from Josephine Baker to Tina Turner and Madonna to Kylie Minogue—featuring a unique array of stage costumes, red-carpet ensembles, and thousands of shining jewelry pieces, figurines, and crystals.

The exhibition is divided into seven key themes: roaming through a chronology of the brand (Time Chamber); a specially curated kaleidoscope of Swarovski’s statement bijoux (Jewelry Box); the house’s first lab-grown diamond collection (Diamonds Of The Future); its inimitable capturing of light through crystal (Masters Of Light) and its long lasting collaboration with music and cinema Pop Icons. Central is Future History, an exploration of fashion in 20 visual dialogues placed throughout the Palazzo Citterio, among outfits by some of the world’s greatest designers.

Actually Swarovski – Masters of Light is so much more than an exhibition of the Austrian brand’s iconic pieces: it is in fact an immersive journey where visitors are emotionally involved also in a fascinating chromatic experience.

It has been a while since Swarovski started focusing on chromatism, especially focusing on tints like Yellow, Pink, Green, Blue and Purple: from the newest mesmerizing monochromatic pieces of jewelry and bright crystals in the rainbow hues, to colourful packaging, along with the interiors of the house’s flagship stores around the world.

It is scientifically proven that colors stimulate human mind, triggering specific emotions (e.g. Joy, Energy, Romanticism, Serenity, Hope, Empathy, Reliability…). Swarovski’s chromatism, in particular, seems to be aimed at leading the clientele towards a world of light and sophistication, where colors as well play a relevant role. Crystals themselves are harmonious natural elements that own a certain amount of energy and whose coloring helps radiating specific vibes.

Whoever buys a Swarowski jewel is not only purchasing a piece of fine craftsmanship, but also a sensorial and emotional experience.
