BEA BONGIASCA
A charming, irreverent spirit characterises the designs of Italian jeweller Bea Bongiasca, citing the influences of contemporary pop culture and the elegance and discipline of Eastern aesthetics. A Central Saint Martins graduate, she presented her debut collection, ‘No Rice, No Life’, at Milan Fashion Week in 2014, followed by a showcase at Art Basel in Miami. The designer considers her pieces as wearable works of art, a notion that sees diamonds, Japanese pearls and topaz partnered with 9kt gold and lacquered enamel to create everyday styles peppered with personality.
EÉRA
EÉRA was founded in 2019 after friends Chiara Capitani and Romy Blanga turned their shared passion for jewellery into a contemporary label. After discovering a vintage snap hook in a Tokyo market, the duo was inspired to imagine how it could be turned into something beautiful that could also be personalised by the wearer. Today, the Milan-based label works from the same utilitarian ethos, turning minimalist, clean-lined 18kt gold and neon-metal forms into wearable art with pavé diamonds and adjustable carabiner-style fastenings – think single earrings, cuffs and necklaces that can be stacked or linked together for a unique look.
PERSEE
Nawal Laoui founded fine jewellery label Persée in 2017 as means of celebrating the complexity and purity of modern diamond setting. The designer honed her expertise in roles at esteemed houses Fabergé and Audemars Piguet before discovering the Japanese art of stone drilling during a trip to Tokyo – a technique in which stones are ‘pierced’ and freely suspended to offer a 360-degree view of their faceted surfaces. Now operating out of Paris, the brand works with gems such as diamonds, emeralds and sapphires and fine 18kt gold to create structural pieces inspired by modern art and ancient mythology.
WILHELMINA GARCIA
Rocio Canals, who goes by the alias Wilhelmina Garcia, founded the Wonderland-inspired jewellery brand in 2012 as an escape from the frantic pace of everyday life. The whimsical collections, such as Animal Kingdom and Bloomland, are inspired by the designer’s travels and are handcrafted in a Barcelona studio from ethically sourced 18kt gold vermeil. Signet rings, necklaces and earrings are set with enamel charms – like the lucky four-leaf clover and the balanced yin and yang – that are informed by the magic of talismans and intended to inject individuality and fantasy into daily edits.
ZOE CHICCO
Zoë Chicco first discovered her love of jewellery at a young age while marvelling over her grandmother’s collection. She went on to study metalsmithing at Skidmore college in Saratoga Springs and honed her craft at the Studio Arts Centre International in Florence, then founded her eponymous label in 2000. Every piece is handcrafted by artisans in the designer’s Los Angeles workshop from ethically sourced gemstones and recycled 14kt gold.
